3 Day Ride - Choose your Route!
Explore the backcountry and beaches on a 3-day horse riding trip along the Atlantic coast near Essaouira. Feel the wind in your hair as you gallop along the beach, riding through open backcountry and coastal landscapes.
There are two routes available, depending on the time of year:
Route 1: The Coastal Adventure
Available year-round
This 3-day horse riding trip near Essaouira takes you along Morocco's Atlantic coast. You'll spend two nights in the village of Sidi Kaouki, where we're based for this ride. The riding days lead along wide beaches, with opportunities for fast gallops and the sound of the ocean alongside you. We ride to Sidi Kaouki, a small surf town down the coast from Essaouira, and explore Sidi M'Barek, known for its small waterfall and wide sand dunes. On the final day, we take our time riding back to Diabat, taking in the views over the ocean and dunes one last time.
Accommodation
Choose between sleeping in a tent right next to the sea or in a comfortable guesthouse — both offer their own kind of experience. Our chef prepares homemade meals with fresh, locally sourced ingredients.
Day 1
Day 1 of this horse riding trip starts at the stable in Diabat, near Essaouira, where you'll meet your guide and horse. You'll ride along the beach, with the Atlantic Ocean as your backdrop. Your destination for the next two nights is Sidi Kaouki, a village known for its laid-back atmosphere. Upon arrival, settle into your camp or guesthouse and enjoy a cup of mint tea. Take a moment to relax before heading out for a sunset ride. End the day with dinner, prepared by our chef using traditional Moroccan flavors.
Day 2
Day 2 begins with breakfast before saddling up for another day of horse riding. Today, we'll head to Sidi M'Barek, known for its small waterfall and sand dunes. Take some time to explore the area before a picnic by the seaside. As we ride back to Sidi Kaouki, take in the views of the ocean. In the evening, enjoy dinner while watching the sunset.
Day 3
Day 3 starts with a delicious breakfast before we embark on our final ride. Today, we'll take a different route back to the stable, riding along the beach and through the dunes. Get ready for some exhilarating canter stretches along the sandy shores, feeling the wind in your hair and the thrill of the ride. Once we arrive back at the stable, we'll have some tea and bid farewell to our trusty horses.
Route 2: Backcountry & Beaches
Available September – May
On this horse riding route, we'll meet in Diabat, then head into Morocco's backcountry, crossing century-old argan forests and wide open landscapes — you might meet a local shepherd with his herd of goats along the way. We ride through traditional villages and experience rural Morocco from the back of the horse. We'll spend the first night in a private house inland, before heading towards Sidi Kaouki and the ocean on the second day. This route is a mix of countryside riding and long beach stretches. From Sidi Kaouki, we spend another long day riding back towards Essaouira, along the beach and through the sand dunes.
Accommodation
You can choose your preference: sleep in Berber tent camps or in guesthouse accommodation. If you choose the guesthouse option, you'll spend the first night in a private house and the second in a guesthouse in Sidi Kaouki. If you go for the camping option, you'll spend both nights in Berber tents, with views over the Atlantic Ocean on the second night. Every night, our chef prepares homemade meals with fresh, locally sourced ingredients.
Day 1
Day one starts with a relaxed horse ride into the inland of Morocco. You get to know your horse slowly but surely while riding through century-old argan forests and rural villages, passing the occasional local shepherd with his goats along the way. The landscapes surrounding you are wide and dry, yet colorful and diverse. There are good opportunities for trots and gallops along the way, even away from the beach. After a first day in the saddle, you arrive at a private house or Berber tent camp — your accommodation for the first night. Settle in, while our chef cooks a local dish for dinner with the group.
Day 2
Day two begins with breakfast before saddling up for another day of horse riding. Today, we'll head towards Sidi Kaouki, a small surfer town with sea views and sunsets over the Atlantic Ocean. On this route, you once again cross the varied landscapes of the inland before noticing the change in scenery as you get closer to the ocean. Once in Sidi Kaouki, take a stroll on the beach before settling in at your guesthouse or oceanside Berber tent camp for the night, with dinner and the sunset over the water.
Day 3
Day 3 starts with breakfast before the final ride. Today, we'll take a different route back to the stable, riding along the beach and through the dunes. There's room for a few canter stretches along the sandy shore, with the wind in your hair. Once we arrive back at the stable, we'll have tea and say goodbye to the horses.

Horses & Riding
Our horses are well cared for Arab-Barb stallions, known for their agility, endurance, and responsiveness. They are in excellent condition, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable ride for you. Each horse is equipped with a comfortable and well-fitted saddle, so you'll be riding in total comfort. Rest assured, our horses are well-trained and ready to give you a safe and unforgettable experience as we gallop along the stunning Atlantic coast.
Rider requirements
This ride is best suitable for riders who are able to walk, trot, and canter. We typically ride for about 4 hours per day, so it's recommended that riders have a good level of riding fitness. If you are an inexperienced rider, please get in touch with us so we can assess your abilities and determine if this ride is suitable for you.
Accommodation
You have the option to choose between two nights in a traditional camp (in Sidi Kaouki, right next to the ocean) or staying in a guesthouse.
If you choose the traditional camp, you'll spend the nights in a spacious Berber tent with plenty of room, equipped with mattresses, covers, and pillows. Our chef prepares dinner for you to enjoy under the stars, with the sound of the Atlantic waves nearby. A single tent is available on request for an additional fee.
Alternatively, if you prefer more privacy, you can opt for the guesthouse in Sidi Kaouki. The guesthouse has private bathrooms. A single room is available on request for an additional fee. On the inland route, if you choose guesthouse accommodation instead of the Berber camp, the first night is spent in a private house, then the second night in the same guesthouse in Sidi Kaouki, as on the beach route.
The choice is yours — both options offer a comfortable stay after a day of horse riding.

Berber Camp
Our Berber tents are what we use on most of our multi-day horse riding trekks. These tents were designed to our needs and produced with traditional canvas material by local craftspeople in Marrakech. You'll share a large Berber tent with your group; private tents are available for a small additional fee. The camp also has a kitchen tent, where our chef cooks local dishes every night, and a toilet tent.
Food and beverages
What will you eat while horse riding with us in Essaouira? Here's an idea of what to expect.
Of course, you'll experience our national dish: tajine. Tajine is a clay pot in which we cook everything, from vegetables to meat and fish, often seasoned with something sweet like plums or raisins, along with our traditional spices. We normally serve tajine in the evening.
For breakfast, you have a good variety of continental staples like bread, butter and jam, alongside Berber eggs, fresh fruits and vegetables, and our favourite amlou — a paste made from almonds, argan oil and honey.
For lunch, we pack a freshly cooked picnic with fresh salads, olives, pasta or rice, fresh bread, and fruit. When you arrive at the campsite or the riad, you'll be greeted with Moroccan tea, nuts and cookies.
All our food is locally sourced where possible and freshly prepared by our chef or the kitchen team at the hotel.

Weight limit
Our horses are Arab-Berber crossbreeds, standing between 145–160cm (57–63in). They are well-muscled, sure-footed, and built for the terrain — but they are not large horses.
We have a weight limit of 85kg / 187lbs for all rides. This is a firm limit, not a guideline. It exists because we take horse welfare seriously, and we'd rather be upfront than have anyone travel all the way to Morocco only to be turned away at the stable.
If you're close to the limit or have questions, just ask — we're happy to talk it through before you book.
